Hotstove: Conn Smythe Favorites? (Sharks)

Todd Cordell

Unless the Pittsburgh Penguins drop four of their next five games, which I'd say is very unlikely, it's probably a safe bet to assume it'll be a Penguin.

Evgeni Malkin has posted fantastic underlying numbers but I don't think he has enough points to be given the Conn Smythe. The same can probably be said about Sidney Crosby.

That leaves Phil Kessel.

Kessel leads the team in points (19), goals (10) and has more shots on goal (83) than anyone in the playoffs. Brent Burns is 2nd place with 67.

If Kessel continues to score the rest of the way I think the Conn Smythe is his to lose.

Ryan Wilson I think for Pittsburgh you have a group of three guys that makes sense. You have Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel, and Matt Murray.

For San Jose I think you have Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski.

If Sidney Crosby keeps putting up points in the Stanley Cup Final I think it will be tough for another Penguin to beat him out.

For San Jose I would pick Brent Burns. A defenseman that is over a point per game this deep in to the playoffs is outstanding. He does so much for their team.
