HockeyBuzz SuperLeague Playoffs (fantasy)

Hopefully you were able to make wise decisions all season and were able to get yourself into the HockeyBuzz SuperLeague playoffs. It’s coming down to the wire for some of us this week as we watch carefully to see if we are going to win the week, or in some cases get enough points to pass someone else in overall fantasy points to climb into a playoff spot. One of the things that can really screw you over for the week is forgetting to select your players or putting in a player or two who is injured. It’s one thing for a player to get hurt during the week and you lose a couple man games…but it’s a mistake that can cost you the week in the playoffs. Make sure if you get into the playoffs you are up to date on not only who’s hot, but who’s hurt.

Once the week is complete the breakdown begins as there will be two separate 128-team brackets. One of the brackets will be reserved for the HockeyBuzz Season Ticket Holders (STH) and the other will be for those who were not. Remember the highest ranked (STH) and the highest ranked free team in each division will earn a playoff berth. The remaining spots will be filled in based on the highest points scored throughout the season. Wins being the first tie breakers, followed by goals scored and then saves. If there happens to be a tie during the playoffs the tie breakers go as follows:

1. Goals 2. Saves 3. Shots on goal

All of the scoring is the same as well as the player selection; you will be picking four left wingers, four right wingers, four centers, six defensemen and two goaltenders.

Here are some tips going into the playoffs and some ideas for those who didn’t make it this year:

- Pick goalies who play at least 3 games that week (almost never will a team start their goalie 4 times in a week so don’t always pick based on number of games played; pick a goalie who is going to get 3 starts and has a good chance to win all three of those games).

- Do your best to get the highest number of games played from your forwards and defensemen.

- Use your salary dollars on high end forwards or defensemen and then of course offset the costs with rookie or sophomore players who are making a very small amount of money.

- Look at team match up’s for not only your goalies, but your players…sometimes that can be the difference in output. For example: if you like two players a lot and they both have 4 games, but they both make 8 million dollars…well, maybe you can’t fit both in, so see who has the ‘easier’ matchups from your perspective and that can make the decision easier for you.

- If you want you can even go as far as looking at a players output history over their career vs teams, it all depends how hardcore you want to research or keep it simple and go on gut instinct

- I like to pick my centers first, then my goalies, then my wingers, then my defensemen….to each their own!

Be sure to check in Monday for a more in depth analysis of who plays who next week so you can make your picks accordingly. There will also be an updated injured list to help out with player selection for the first playoff week in the HBSL.

Best of luck for the remaining few days in your fantasy, and hopefully you will be on your way to a prize in the Hockeybuzz SuperLeague. Better luck next year if you fell short this year.

Remember, next Monday is the first day of playoffs!
