Ho Hum Holtby (capitals)

Evander Kane and the Buffalo Sabres sent Braden Holtby to the showers early on Saturday night.

Holtby's incredible winning streak was snapped by the feisty Buffalo Sabres.

Barry Trotz pulled his Vezina and MVP candidate goalies in favor of Philipp Grubauer after allowing three goals on just 16 shots.

Holtby's win streak began on November 12. He was bound to suffer a stinker of a loss.

Evander Kane's bullet with butterfly wings gave Buffalo the early 3-0 lead and it ended Holtby's 20-0-2 winning streak, which is one win shy of Jose Theodore's franchise record of 23, set in 2009-10.

Holtby entered Saturday night's game leading the NHL in wins, ranking second in GAA and sitting third in save percentage.

The NHL record is held by Gerry Cheevers of the Boston Bruins, who went 32 games without a loss in the 1971-72 season (24 wins, eight ties).

Chad Johnson made 33 saves for the Sabres.

Enader Kane finished the game with a goal and an assists. Zach Bogosian had two assists.

Phil Varone, Tim Schaller (SHG) and Cody Franson (PPG) also scored for the winners.

Congrats to Buffalo.

The Caps and Sabres have battled three times in the past twenty days. Caps tough guy Tom Wilson had taken a liberty or two with Buffalo players in those three games. Marcus Foligno had it up to here with the antagonistic Wilson and proceeded to punch him in the face and flip him like a cheese omelette.

Dan Bylsma said after the game that Latvian Locomotive Zemgus Girgensons will not be taking the two game road trip trip Arzona and Colorado.

Girgensons suffered an upper body injury.

Josh Gorges didn't play in the Washington game due to an upper body injury, however, he will make the trip.
