Devils Trade Jaromir Jagr To The Fancy Cats (Devils)

The Devils have followed the footsteps of several other teams, and made a big trade in advance of the deadline.

Jaromir Jagr, who has seemingly been working his way out of town for months now, has been traded to the Florida Panthers for a 2nd round pick this year, and either Florida's or Minnesota's 3rd rounder next year.

Jagr has gone pointless in eight consecutive games and was essentially using the media to push for a trade, so this is a pretty solid haul for a pure rental player.

The Devils should be able to get a good player in the 40's or 50's as this is a very deep draft class, and they will also have another top-90 pick in what looks to be a good crop next year.

Jagr is still a quality top-6 forward and will surely help Florida in their push for the playoffs.

I think this move shows Lou Lamoriello is ready to call it a season, as the Fancy Cats are one of the teams New Jersey would have to pass in order to qualify for the playoffs.

This will likely be the first of several moves in the coming days, as the Devils have plenty of other players - Marek Zidlicky, Scott Gomez, Michael Ryder and Martin Havlat, among others - on expiring contracts that could be moved.
