Devils Sign Adam Larsson To Long-Term Extension (Devils)

The New Jersey Devils have signed defenseman Adam Larsson to a six-year contract extension worth an annual average of $4,166,666.67.

The breakdown is as follows:

2015-16: $2.5M 2016-17: $3M 2017-18: $4.5M 2018-19: $4.85M 2019-20: $5.05M 2020-21: $5.1M

I'll have much more on this tomorrow but it's hard not to think this deal is going to look real good for the Devils in the not too distant future.

The Devils have plucked yet another member from the Penguins organization.

This time it's Tom Fitzgerald who is defecting from Pittsburgh in order to join the Devils.

Fitzergerald has served as the Assistant GM in Pittsburgh for the last year and he will take on the same role in New Jersey.

Fitzgerald is the fourth person to leave the Penguins for the Devils since May with Shero, John Hynes and Alain Nasreddine being the others.

While Fitzgerald had only been an Assistant GM in Pittsburgh for a year he was a member of Shero's staff in Pittsburgh from 2007-08 on.

The two undoubtedly have a good working relationship but that may not be the only reason Fitzgerald decided to leave the Penguins. Apparently Fitzgerald and Penguins GM Jim Rutherford got into a little dispute at the NHL draft just a month ago.

More than anything else I'm interested to see what this means for Chris Lamoriello. He had previously been responsible for a few different things - including the Albany Devils - but that's Fitzgerald's job now.

Whether or not Lamoriello stays with the team remains to be seen but if he does it appears he'll be taking on a much lesser role.
