Corrupting The Senators (sabres)

Lehner made 34 saves, 22 of them in a robust third period where the Sabres could only muster 2 shots on goal of their own.

The former Ottawa Senator goalie won his first game as a Sabres against the team that traded him for the 21st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Lehner made his triumphant return to the Buffalo net on January 15 against Boston. He suffered a high ankle sprain on October 8 against Ottawa and was forced to sit out of action for 13 weeks.

Since his return to the Buffalo crease, Lehner has played spectacularly in his last four starts.

The ginormous Swede has faced 145 shot attempts and has made 138 saves.

His save percentages the past four starts:

.944 (34 saves vs. Ottawa) .955 (44 saves vs. Detroit) .943 (33 saves vs. Ottawa) .900 (27 saves vs. Boston)

.

Super Jack Eichel scored two more highlight package goals and the Sabres (20-26-4) ended a three-game losing streak. Eichel now has 16 goals in 50 games this season, just two goals behind Artemi Panarin of the Blackhawks.

Evander Kane also scored.

Lehner needed four attempts to win his first game in the Blue & Gold since returning from a sprained ankle he sustained opening night in his Sabres debut against the Senators October 8 and his first win (1-3-0). Lehner, who missed 39 games, also collected an assist on Eichel's first goal of the game.

Lehner, 24, was the Senators second pick (46th overall) in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

The Gothenberg, Sweden native played 86 games for the Senators between 2010 and 2015.

He was 30-36-13 with a .914 save percentage and 2.88 GAA for the Senators. He was traded to the Sabres along with center David Legwand June 26 for the 21st pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Erik Karlsson and Bobby Ryan scored for the Senators (23-21-6) and Anderson made 19 saves.

The Senators thought that they scored a goal to tie the game when JG Pageau poked a puck past Lehner. However, after further review the clock had wound down to zeros before the puck entered the net. Mike Weber was in the box at the time for hooking Mark Stone.
