A loaded Team Canada will be without one of its best for the World Cup of Hockey later this month, as Los Angeles Kings forward Jeff Carter will be forced to miss the tournament with a lower-body injury suffered during his offseason training.
The 31-year-old Carter scored 24 goals and 62 points in 77 games for the Los Angeles Kings a season ago, and checked in with three goals and five points in six games for Team Canada en route to their Gold medal finish at the Winter Olympics in Sochi back in 2014.
To replace Carter, Team Canada has made the call to one of Carter's rivals, at least in terms of Pacific Division dominance, in Anaheim Ducks winger Corey Perry.
Like Carter, Perry also put up 62 points in 2015-16, though 34 of those 62 points came via goals. Perry was on Team Canada in their back-to-back Olympic Golds, and posted four goals and six points in 13 contests between 2010's games in Vancouver and 2014's in Sochi.
Perry also impressed with his World Championships showing in Russia this past spring, too, with four goals and nine points in 10 games for Team Canada on the way to yet another Gold.
