The Calgary Flames have trimmed down their training camp roster by four players.
Defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon, who was waived on Friday, has cleared waivers and been assigned to the Stockton Heat.
Joining Wotherspoon in Stockton are forwards Garnet Hathaway and Hunter Shinkaruk as well as goaltender David Rittich.
The Flames still have 28 players remaining in camp. They are down to two goaltenders (Brian Elliott/Chad Johnson) but there are still decisions to be made at every other position.
Nine defensemen remain in camp as do 17 forwards. Vey, who also cleared waivers, and tryouts Lauri Korpikoski, Chris Higgins and Nicklas Grossman headline the most surprising players remaining in camp. Personally I would cut all four, which could very well happen, without thinking twice.
I would also cut Brandon Bollig. He doesn't bring anything but the occasional big hit to the table and, quite frankly, I think Hathaway is a much better option in the bottom-6.
It'll be interesting to see how the Flames elect to fill out their roster. Unfortunately for the fans it seems like some poor, gritty players like Bollig and Grossman may be kept over younger, more talented players. We'll find out within the next few days if that is the case.
