Calgary Flames: Travis Green Expected To Get Second Interview (Flames)

It's been almost a month since the Calgary Flames started their search for a new head coach and there still doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

From Bruce Boudreau and Guy Boucher (prior to both being hired, of course) to Ralph Krueger and Geoff Ward the Flames have seemingly been linked to every coach on the market.

But a week ago Krueger and Ward were reportedly the favorites for the job but since that time news came out that Randy Carlyle, who is also being considered for Anaheim's coaching vacancy, is a legitimate candidate and has been interviewed twice by the Flames.

It shouldn't be a surprise that GM Brad Treliving is taking his time - he's a thorough evaluator and this is his first coaching hire - but, if interviews are any indication about his interest in a coach, it's probably safe to say Travis Green is near the top of Treliving's wish-list.

Green has already been interviewed for the job and is expected to get another, according to TSN's Darren Dreger (summarized by MyNHLTradeRumors).

Calgary Flames: Travis Green is also under consideration by the Flames, he’s had one interview and expected to get another. Canucks assistant coach Glen Gulutzan is also being considered.

Green, like a lot of candidates the Flames have been linked to, doesn't have much (or any) NHL experience but has a pretty good track record.

After going 37-8-2 in 2012-13 as an interim head coach with a powerhouse Portland Winterhawks (WHL) team, Green was hired to coach the Utica Comets.

In three years under Green the Comets own a 120-78-30 record and have finished above .500 each season. They qualified for the playoffs two of the three years and won three playoff series in that span.

He may not be a big name but his track record is pretty impressive and, quite frankly, I think bringing in a young coach (45) with new ideas could be a good thing for the Flames.
