Flames GM Brad Treliving has re-signed another one of the team's restricted free agents in Josh Jooris.
The 25-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension worth $975,000.
#Flames and Josh Jooris settle for 1 yr deal at $975,000.
— Tim Wharnsby (@TimWharnsby) July 24, 2015Jooris was scheduled for a player-elected arbitration hearing on July 28. That will obviously no longer be necessary.
I really like this deal for the Flames. Jooris was one of Calgary's best possession forwards last season and performed well on the penalty kill as the Flames generated a team-leading 20% of the shot attempts during 4 vs 5 play with Jooris on the ice.
Not only were his underlying numbers solid - especially for a rookie - but he also chipped in offensively with 12 goals and 24 points in 60 games.
In the short-term the Flames are paying very little for a solid bottom-6 forward with room to grow. Should Jooris continue to build on last season's success he'll earn himself a more lucrative deal next season.
