Calgary Flames Burn Bruins; Trade Rumors (senators)

Once again, the Calgary Flames found a way to win yet another game, this time in exciting fashion against the Boston Bruins at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday night.

It looked as if the Boston Bruins would take the win as they had a 3-1 lead after the first period of play. But the Flames did not quit, and would strike back in the third period like they have done more than once this season.…‹ Forward …‹Jiri Hudler…‹ would score twice in the third period to send the game to overtime, where TJ Brodie would net the game winning goal…‹.…‹

David Jones also scored for the Flames, who are now 32-22-3 on the 2014-15 NHL season.…‹ …‹And with the Flames win, they lead the NHL with 10 victories when trailing after 40 minutes of play this season. …‹That's impressive and …‹…‹li…‹…‹ke noted above, the Flames are …‹coming out on top in the final period where they're able to come back to tie, and or, win the game. …‹

Flames head coach Bob Hartley had this to say after the game.

"To use a famous phrase from a great baseball manager, it's not over until it's over,"... "I don't know what to say anymore. Those guys never quit."

…‹That is true. The Flames do not quit. They're always finding a way to get back into the game and win it, and they continue to demonstrate strong third period efforts. While it worked for them last night, they will need to continue to work on their first periods as they can't expect to continuously chase leads and come out with points.

Now, for the Bruins. Brad Marchand, Zdeno Chara and Torey Krug scored, but with the loss, they're on a four game losing skid …‹and some fans are wondering if the Bruins will actually make the playoffs?…‹…‹…‹

…‹It's worth mentioning that Flames defenceman Mark Giordano had three assists while logging in just about 28 minutes of ice time. That is a ton of minutes for any player in the NHL and he was a key factor on the Flames blueline where he shut down the Bruins for most of the night.

The Flames now sit with a 32-22-3 record on the season and will take on the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.

*** For those that missed yesterday's blog, here are my rumour updates! The Calgary Flames have been noted in a handful of trade rumours over the past week or so and they do make sense for the club. According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Calgary Flames would like to do something before the trade deadline.

It looks like GM Treliving will be adding more than selling this particular year and I'm fine with that, as long as he's not paying premium prices and only looking for rental type players (unless of course you can add skilled youth).

Garrioch notes that the Flames are interested in Buffalo Sabres forward Chris Stewart. Stewart has been linked to trade rumours for awhile now as a piece that would help teams make that push for the playoffs, and or in it. Stewart would act as a rental to help the Flames with that push to the post-season.

The Fourth Period also noted that the Flames are in the market for a top-six winger and could complete multiple moves by the trade deadline. TFP mentioned Calgary is interested in right wing Chris Stewart and have been eyeing Carolina Hurricanes winger Jiri Tlusty. Again, Tlusty would be a rental that would help the Flames in the post-season.

The way I look at it is, the Flames want to bolster their roster - every team would love to do that. But with the Flames making their way up the standings they will be heading to the playoffs and that's where a rental player comes in, to help your team go further in the post-season.

Will the Flames make a trade? By the sounds of it, yes...we just better hope that they do not lose sight of their ultimate goal to rebuild.
