Blue Jackets Get Reinforcements: Listening on Johansen? (Blue Jackets)

Today the Blue Jackets announced that Brandon Dubinsky and Alexander Wennberg will be activated off the IR. To make room for the returning centres, Rene Bourque and Cody Goloubef have been placed on the IR.

The Goloubef move was expected as he won’t be able to play for a while after having surgery to repair his broken jaw. The Bourque move was unexpected as it hadn’t been reported that he was hurt. It’s now been reported that he has an upper body injury. It hasn’t been said but I would guess he got hurt when he took a big cross check late in the game against the Sharks.

With Wennberg and Dubinsky back the Jackets no longer have a need for extra forwards. So they sent Josh Anderson back to Lake Erie. Anderson played well but fell victim to the numbers game. Sending him down allows him to keep playing and continue to develop rather than just sit in the press box.

With Fedor Tyutin’s status still unknown, Justin Falk has been recalled to provide some insurance. Falk gives the team some flexibility if they don’t like what they see from Andrew Bodnarchuk.

*** Watching “Insider Trading… a feature on Sports Centre on TSN, insider Darren Dreger had some interesting reports on Ryan Johansen.

He said that teams have been calling about Johansen, which is nothing new. I’d imagine teams have been calling on Johansen since his AHL scratch. What was noteworthy about this was Dreger said Jarmo was listening on offers rather than dismissing them. One team said he is softly in play. If the right deal comes along they (the Blue Jackets) will consider it.

I'm trying not to read too much into this but it’s concerning to me the team doesn’t view Ryan Johansen untouchable as they should. They're not shopping him but even just listening can be slippery slope. Here’s hoping the right deal doesn’t come along.
