First off, this is a moving target and not in the realm of rumors at this point.

No one except Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin knows what is really going on in regards to the team's best defenseman, P.K. Subban.

This is a chess game played with a pawn who just happens to be your best player by the Canadiens. They continue to listen to offers and depending on who you talk to they may be getting close to a deal. All of this being public has to be somewhat damaging to Subban and the team.

There is even a concerted effort right now, almost like they are trying to justify this ahead of time, to say that Subban is unpopular in the Montreal locker room. I have talked to a few Habs and ex-habs today and that is very much overstating things. There is a small faction in the room who aren't Subban lovers, but it's really a small group, and honestly would he be unpopular in Pittsburgh, Chicago, or any other legit locker room of a contending team?

Bergevin came out again and said he is listening to all offers but not shopping P.K.. He also said he can't envision a Subban trade. OK.

The rumors of the Edmonton Oilers and Canadiens are all coming out of Montreal. Edmonton front office boss Peter Chiarelli and company are as tight lipped as it gets.

But let's face it, if Montreal refuses to give their star d-man any assurances the chances are good that someone will put forth a pretty significant offer, be it Vancouver, LA, Dallas, Chicago, Philly, or Tampa.

More to come...
