The Washington Capitals have signed center Mike Richards to a one-year, pro-rated $1M deal.
Richards has met with the NHL and been given clearance to resume his NHL career immediately. This comes on heels of his arrest at the Canadian border earlier this year. Richards was charged with possession of an illegal substance.
Richards won two Stanley Cups in L.A. with the Kings and spent the first half of his career as captain of the Philadelphia Flyers.
In 710 career NHL games, Richards has 482 points (179 goals, 303 assists) and 577 penalty minutes.
Great signing by the Caps as Richards was known in his prime as a great two-way center and penalty killer.
As long as Richards is in game shape, this should be a good fit.
