Personally, I’ve never been a huge fan of the all-star game, even as a kid. But the competitions for hardest shot, fastest skater, accuracy and what not are all exciting still to this day.
With the Winter Classic having such poor ratings this year, perhaps it’s time for a change.
There is a lot invested into the Winter Classic and the ice conditions must be good enough for two teams to battle it out as the game still counts towards the regular season standings.
My thought is they hold the all-star game outside at the winter classic rink and play the all-star game there instead of a regular season game. This would cut back in potential injuries and the fans can load up the stands and enjoy the skills competition and the game, as well as any activities they could include to keep the fans entertained.
As it is, majority of the people can’t actually see the game even if they are at the game. They are too far back and are there for the good times and excitement that the experience brings.
As long as the ice is a good enough quality for the competitions I feel it would work and maybe bring some life back into the all-star game. Of course this may limit where the game could be held, but I don’t see that being too big of a problem
If that is the deal breaker, so be it; but it’s an idea.
What do you think the NHL should do?
Congratulations to all of the players who made the 2015/16 all-star game!
Thanks for reading.
