Wrap: Flyers Earn 3-2 OT in New Jersey

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils in overtime, 3-2, at the Prudential Center in Newark on Tuesday evening. Ryan Poehling scored twice in regulation (2nd and 3rd goals of the season). Owen Tippett netted the game-winner in OT (11th goal).

The Flyers never led in regulation and trailed 1-0 after the first period. Michael McLeod, who also went 16-for-18 on faceoffs for the night, tallied his 7th goal of the season. After Poehling tied the game at 1:10 of the middle stanza off a feed from Joel Farabee, a Jesper Bratt power play goal (13th) restored a lead for the Devils at the 2:26 mark. Off a perfect setup from Travis Konecny, Poehling scored again at 8:18 of the second period to make it a 2-2 game.

New Jersey controlled the decided majority of the play in the third period, but 10 saves by Ersson sent the game to overtime tied at 2-2. In OT, the two teams traded off chances. Finally, at 3:24, Tippett stole the puck from Luke Hughes off a drop pass from older brother Luke. From there, Tippett soloed and beat Vitek Vanek to end the game.

Ersson earned the win in net, stopping 24 of 26 shots. Vanecek made 23 saves on 26 shots, taking the OT loss.

The Flyers (18-10-3) have points in nine straight games (7-0-2) and wins in seven of their eight games in December. For period-by-period synopses, analysis, stats and highlights, see the Postgame 5 on the Flyers official website.

The Flyers were originally scheduled to practice on Wednesday. That has been cancelled. The team will host the Nashville Predators at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday, before visiting the Detroit Red Wings on Friday in the last game before the leaguewide Christmas break.
