Who should be leading the Norris race? (Sharks)

In this edition of the hotstove we share our thoughts on which player should (currently) have a leg up over the rest in the Norris race.

Todd Cordell

I'm going with Erik Karlsson.

Brent Burns is having a truly spectacular season but Karlsson has gone shot for shot with him despite playing less ideal playing circumstances.

Karlsson has a lesser supporting cast to work with, plays in Guy Boucher's low-event, stingy defensive system, starts fewer of his shifts in the offensive zone and is still only five points shy of Burns' total.

It's a close race but right now I'd give the slight edge to Karlsson. We'll see if that changes down the stretch.

Peter Tessier …‹Burns would be my choice but he and Karlsson are obvious so let's assume they aren't in it to make the conversation more interesting.

After those two you get Hedman, Keith, Schultz, Byfuglien, Hamilton and Werenski. Of that group, the intriguing three to me are Schultz, Werenski and Hamilton. If I was voting on those three it becomes a much harder decision but I lean towards Hedman. The guy has had good seasons in the past and he's putting it together again albeit behind two generational talents so he should get some consideration even if he won't win.
