On Monday, USA Hockey announced roster cuts to trim its 2019 World Junior Showcase squad to 31 players for the rest of the tournament. The USA Blue and USA White split squads have been combined into a single roster.
All three of the Flyers prospects vying for spots on the 2019-20 World Junior Championship team --- 2018 first-round pick Joel Farabee (a shoo-in for a return trip to the WJC if the Flyers/Phantoms make him available to USA Hockey), 2019 first-rounder Cam York and 2019 second-rounder Bobby Brink -- remain with Team USA at the WJSS.
At Monday's practice, York (one of 10 remaining defensemen) played left defense on a pairing with Arizona Coyotes prospect Ty Emberson. Farabee played left wing on a line with Anaheim Ducks prospect Trevor Zegras and Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Caufield. Brink skated on right wing on a line with Minnesota Wild prospect Matthew Boldy and Ottawa Senators prospect Jon Gruden.
Thirteen players were cut from the roster on Monday, including 2020 NHL Draft hopefuls Luke Toporowski and Drew DeRidder.
On Tuesday afternoon, Team USA will take on Team Canada. Game time is 4 p.m. EDT. A live stream will be available on HockeyTV. Beginning on Wednesday, all games will be televised live on NHL Network. On Wednesday, Team USA plays Adam Ginning and Team Sweden (4 p.m.) after Canada takes on Finland at 1 p.m. EDT.
