A couple of ex-Calgary Flames have elected to head overseas rather than wait around in hopes of landing an NHL contract.
Forward Linden Vey, who spent only one season in the Flames' organization, is expected to sign with Barys Astana of the KHL.

The 25-year-old is coming off an excellent season in the AHL. He put up 55 points in 61 games and led a very good Stockton team in points per game with .90. He was a big reason for the team's success and will be missed.
The other player departing the organization is defenseman Ladislav Smid, who will reportedly return home to play with Liberac in Czech Republic.
The 31-year-old just concluded the final season of a four-year, $14 million contract and was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
He appeared in just 53 games over the last three seasons, none of which came this past year, due to serious neck issues.
It seemed like his playing days were finished so it's great to hear he is healthy enough to continue his career back home.
