Update! OK, init standings have adjusted because I accidentally forgot a factor in the formula, which when added back in resulted in many less OT games... So the new results are below...They will change in the AM when I enter in tonight's games..
So since the rumor tracker is alive and well I wanted to introduce something else into my blog.. Remember, not all fun ends with the trade deadline around here...
Last year I came up with a formula for predicting the remaining games in the NHL seasons taking into account several factors beyond just the normal percentages that you see on the other sites who tell you that your team has a 38.43% chance of making the playoffs.
Are they taking into account back to backs? or how teams historically play in traditional building? or who has nothing to play for? etc... Well I am and thanks to my PhD wife who knows math I wrote a program that will recalculate after every night and allow me to not tell you the percentages, but the final standings! And isn't that all we really care about??
Last year by the way, this formula proved to be very accurate and had the Flyers making the Final playoff spot in the east...with 20 games to play when they were very far out...(It is NOT Flyers biased by the way...as you can tell by where it has them finishing this season..)
In a few weeks I will add "who will win the Stanley Cup" after every night's games based on the playoff matchups...So here is your starting point...So every morning I will post the new projected standings and how they have changed based on the night prior...But here is our baseline...
