The NHL to face Name/Image/Likeness very soon with the CHL watching closely (Red Wings)

I’ll embed the old video, but since the college bowl season and before I’ve talked about Name/Image/Likeness and recently done some writeups on the amount of tampering happening in the NHL. This year’s draft is the result of complaints of tampering and the format is down to an auditorium of prospects with Gary Bettman at the podium and teams calling in their picks. Still unclear how many if any club representatives will actually be at the draft.

This isn’t limited to one player. Michigan has 7 division I school and only 2 have the finances to play the bidding game (University of Michigan and Michigan State) at the highest level. Canadian pro teams are concerned but not addressing the potential fallout until we see the first clear deal signed.

Regardless of what would be best, career wise, for a player agents are incentivized to the tune of up to 20% on these deals. It’s crunch time and as we saw bowl games shift drastically, are watching March madness thin the heard quickly, next year’s NCAA Division I hockey could easily see the open market hit hard. As a hockey fan and Wings fan, sincerely hoping that a player’s dream of the NHL and draw of their drafting team can outcompete whatever offers come down the pipe.
