I know many out there are upset today at what happened yesterday. Of course not everyone got exactly what they wanted yesterday. That can never happen, but as a fan of hockey in general, you really have to be happy with all the excitement that went down.
Besides the general signing of many free agents to many ridiculous contracts, we had extra drama which made the day one to remember.
* We had an offer sheet. I read about it all day long, that I kept hearing Montréal and Carolina were talking trade and Sebastian Aho...I wrote Montréal was hanging an offer sheet over Carolina in an attempt to entice them. This has to play out still, but it's exciting to have an offer sheet to discuss.
* We had the top free-agent stuck in the Battle of New York. For years this will be remembered and discussed, because the way it went down was truly surreal for fans of the Islanders and some brilliant last-minute bidding by the Rangers.
We had the Leafs and Colorado make a MAJOR trade. Last July 1 it was the St. Louis Blues landing Ryan O'Reilly. Time will tell whether Colorado or Toronto will win out, but the fact that kind of trade went down was truly exciting.
And we were left with more questions setting up for an exciting July. There are still many player trades needing to be made in order to sign the many restricted free agents that are out there. And the threat of offer sheets is finally a reality.
What are your favorite moments from yesterday, and what are you looking forward to happening over the next several weeks?
