If your are ever on the iconic TV program Jeopardy and are given the name Reid Duke, the answer is "Who was the first ever player selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in their franchise's history".
Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee has signed free agent forward Reid Duke from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL to a three-year entry level contract.
Duke is now the first player transaction in Vegas Golden Knights history.
Duke will finish his season with the Wheat Kings and will then transition to the Golden Knights for their inaugural Development Camp in Sin City in July.
The 21-year-old Duke has scored a team leading 35 goals and 32 assists for 67 points and 69 PIMs this season. This year marks his second career 30-goal season. Duke popped 33 goals and added 29 assists last season.
The Minnesota Wild liked the production and physicality from Duke. However, the Wild are loaded at the NHL and AHL levels with skilled forwards and opted to pass on signing Duke to his ELC.
He immediately became a free agent and Vegas is ready to roll the bones on the forward.
No brainer, right?
Duke has played five seasons in the WHL with Brandon and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He has scored 112 goals and 135 assists for 247 points and 317 PIMs in 304 games.
The 6'0'', 190-pound native of Calgary, Alberta was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (169th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
