On Chiasson...
The NY Rangers are looking into the possibility of signing Alex Chiasson and it would appear to make some sense...
On players not getting signed possibly playing in the Olympics...
There has been a lot of scuttlebutt on "the internets" these past few days regarding guys like Shane Doan, Mike Fisher, Jarome Iginla, and Jaromir Jagr (who said he retired from international play) possibly taking off the beginning of the season and playing in the Olympics....as long as they sign in the NHL by late February they can return to the NHL for a shortened season...
I have talked to a few close to the scenes and as of now this does appear to be nothing more than speculation and all the players mentioned are still holding out hope for a full year NHL contract...
That could change however if the market continues to be essentially shut down...
"Not there yet, but I could absolutely see it happening in a few rare cases," a prominent player agent told me last night....
My question to you is should these players play for their countries or should they allow younger player to get this rare opportunity? For many these Olympics this could be their only chance....especially when you consider the NHL is likely to return to the games in China four years from now.
We will discuss all this and more on today's Buzzcast live at 1pm ET...
