The San Jose Sharks have reportedly re-signed forward Joel Kellman to a two-year deal. The contract carries an AAV of $750,000, according to CapFriendly.com, and Kellman will be an unrestricted free agent by the time it expires in 2022.

Obviously, there’s no complaining about this contract. In a poll I did last month regarding Kellman’s future with the Sharks, 53 per cent of readers voted that he’ll have a permanent role with the team next season. If that’s the case, the Sharks have a decent bottom-six player for just above the league minimum. If not, it carries no risk and they could simply keep him on the roster as a spare.
After just one year with the organization, this extension will give the Sharks a chance to see how high Kellman’s ceiling is, without any downside.
