With the Islanders in need of a temporary home between now and the completion of their new area in Belmont, Newsday is reporting that the Islanders are close to an agreement to play some regular-season games at their former home, Uniondale's Nassau Coliseum.
The agreement would consist of the team playing games at the Coliseum and Barclays Center. It is currently unknown how the regular-season games will be structured.
The Isles are believed to need a home for three seasons as the new arena is projected to open for the 2021-22 season.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Islanders owner Jon Ledecky, along with officials from the league and Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment recently toured the Coliseum to see if it was a viable option.
Ledecky on WFAN two weeks ago said that there are still details to be worked out, like amenities, rewiring for television, concessions and the bathrooms.
The Coliseum, now called NYCB Live, reopened last a March after undergoing an $165-million renovation. That’s a lot of money for paint.
The Islanders have until next Wednesday to fully opt out of their “ironclad… 25-year lease with Barclays Center.
