The Joakim Nygard sweepstakes appear to be nearing an end.
The 26-year-old Swedish left winger has reportedly narrowed his list down to two teams and the Calgary Flames – whose interest was first rumored back in March – are one of them.

Nygard has scored at least 16 goals in three consecutive SHL seasons, with a new high being set this past year. He led Farjestad with 21 – and also finished 3rd on the team in points (35).
Though he does have some offensive ability, Nygard is known more as a speedster and has drawn comparisons to countryman Carl Hagelin.
If he can chip in the odd goal, kill some penalties, and take the top off of defenses, he'd be a very valuable depth piece to the Flames – especially on the cheap at a time they're heading for a bit of a cap crunch.
Though it's not a guarantee he pans out, the risk in giving him a chance is non-existent.
The Flames and Oilers fought over a depth forward last summer (Austin Czarnik), the Flames won the battle, and it worked out pretty well for them.
Considering how desperate the Oilers are for more speed and skill on the wing, the Flames are surely hoping history repeats itself.
