Post Battle #62 vs. the Minnesota Wild (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Blue Jackets 1 – Wild 0

Game Summary

This was another just fantastic hockey game. Much like the previous game in Montreal it was a hard fought tight checking, playoff type game. The Blue Jackets and Sergei Bobrovsky were once again faced off against a top goalie in the league. Bobrovsky and Devan Dubnyk were going back and forth, save for save.

Bobrovsky stopped all 38 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season. Dubnyk was not perfect though he was played extremely well stopping 39 of 40 shots including all eight power play shots.

The Jackets were able to get one goal by Dubnyk, courtesy of Brandon Saad.

The shot is a little bit of a knuckler that Dubnyk can’t handle cleanly. Saad follows up his shot and is just able to squeak it past Dubnyk. That was Saad’s 19th of the season. He’s one goal away from his third straight 20 goal season.

It wouldn’t be a Blue Jacket game it seems without some controversy. There were two plays that went against the Wild that they were displeased with. The first was this disallowed goal.

The puck is clearly kicked but it is going wide until it deflects off William Karlsson’s skate and re-directs into the net. Apparently the rule here is that the puck was kicked so the deflection doesn’t matter. If the puck had of deflected off a stick instead then the goal would have counted.

The other controversy came at the end of the game with the Wild looking to tie it, Martin Handzal was called for elbowing on Bobrovsky.

Bobrovsky sell’s it big time, but there is clearly contact. Both players likely should have been called and the teams would have finished the game playing 4 on 4. Alas it wasn’t called that way, and this has the same feeling to the end of the Montreal game.
