Post Battle #37: Jackets go into the break with a shootout win (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Blue Jackets 2 – Flyers 1

Game Summary

After a couple poor performances in a row the Blue Jackets got back on track with good game against the Flyers. The outshot the Flyers 36-31 and had a 51.52% Corsi at 5 on 5. Both goalies, Sergei Bobrovksy and Brian Elliott were on their games. Elliott stopped 35 of 36 and Bobrovksy 28 of 29.

The Jackets were able to beat Elliott once, and it came on the power play.

Seth Jones’ shot gets deflected and gets past Elliott. Jones has really picked up his game in the absence of Zach Werenski. Jones has points in all three games Weresnki has missed and has five points in the last four. He’s been an anchor back there; he’s played at least 25 minutes in each of the last three games, up from his 24:21 seasonal average.

The power play has also been much better recently. The Jackets have scored a power play goal in each of the last four games, and five of the last six. The power play is still last in the league at 12.1%, but they have climbed over 10% and are just 0.2% behind Buffalo for 30th. It’s still a work in progress but its starting to show signs of life.

For the second game in a row the shootout was needed to decide it. This time the Blue Jackets came out on the winning end. Bobrovsky stopped all three attempts and Pierre-Luc Dubois won it for the Jackets in the third round.

He doesn’t do anything fancy, just picks a corner and snipes it. Stat of the Night
