Things are happening!
The Oilers announced Thursday afternoon that they had traded a 2020 conditional 6th round pick in exchange for right shot defenceman Chris Wideman.
Wideman was recently involved in the Uber incident in Ottawa and since has seen his ice-time slashed heavily. Wideman, a right shot defenceman had 8 points in 16 games last season and 5 points (2g 3a) in 19 games this year. Wideman has a cap hit of 1 mil and is a UFA after this season.
Wideman was looked at as a solid third pairing option in Otrawa and could be a player who steps into a powerplay role on this Oilers team. Too many times in the past the Oilers have lost trades involving disgruntled players. It is nice to sew Chiarelli take advantage of another teams situation for once.
It will be interesting to watch and see how the lineups fall. Wideman should be more than just a 7th defenceman which could mean this is not the end of the moves for Edmonton.
