Micheal Ferland and his agent, Jason Davidson, have filed for player-elected arbitration in advance of today's deadline at 5 p.m. Eastern.
Ferland's camp and Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving have worked towards a multi-year extension in recent weeks, and *some* progress has been made, but clearly a gap still remains between the two sides.
Filing for arbitration should increase the urgency to try and find common ground in the coming weeks, as arbitration hearings can be rather cut-throat.
Ferland, 25, is coming off a strong season where he set career highs in goals (15) and points (25) despite averaging just 11:34 of ice on a nightly basis and seeing essentially no power play time (35 minutes in 76 games played).
