Lyon in net, what do you expect from Team D and power play? (Red Wings)

Husso had a rough outing, but it is rightly pointed out that the type of opportunities against (odd man rushes in particular) were brutal for the goalie that has been Detroit’s go to. Now, will the team show any other changes?

Let me know your thoughts on what to expect from team defense, potentially different looks when hemmed in. Better decisions in clearing the puck? Forcing perimeter shots? Will the squad come together in a different formation in their own zone?

The other question is on the power play. Some (including yours truly) don’t think 4 forwards is the best formula right now. Inevitably you find someone who isn’t prepared cycle up to the blue line and face an aggressive adversary who knows they may be able to get around the forward.

There is a lot to be excited about for this team. These are tweaks. It’s the easiest job in the world to be a blogger offering up suggestions that may or may not lead to success. Whatever the reason for the power play change and then a 1-2-2 structure to try and preserve a lead just didn’t seem to fit the team personnel. If the lead is big enough (3 or 4 goals) I like a 1-3-1 formation. So long as you have a forward up front who can get the puck deep into the O zone and a defender on the back with a penchant for good breakout passes. Clogging up the neutral zone and forcing a dump and chase an be a good way to slow the opposing forecheck.

Let me know your thoughts, what strategy changes (if any) we may see and what you’ll be looking for. Enjoy the game!
