Looking to stretch win streak to 6  (Avalanche)

After dispatching Nashville 3-2 on Tuesday, the Avalanche return to the Pepsi Center for a Wednesday date with Pittsburgh.

The Avalanche had lost 11 consecutive regular-season games to the Predators since a 4-3 win against them on March 28, 2016.

Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals, Tyson Jost had the game winner with a power-play goal in the third period and Semyon Varlamov had 36 saves.

Philipp Grubauer likely will start in the second game of the back-to-back set, with Varlamov playing again Friday against St. Louis. Grubauer has gone 5-0-2 in his past seven games.

The Avalanche (14-6-4) have won five games in a row and are on a 7-0-1 roll since losing five in a row (0-4-1) from Oct. 27 through Nov. 9.

Colorado went 2-for-2 on power plays against Nashville and leads the NHL with a 31.3 percent success rate (25-for-80) on the season.

Right wing Mikko Rantanen had two assists and leads the league in assists (30) and points (40). He has 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in a five-game point streak and 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in the past eight games.

MacKinnon is second in the league in scoring with 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) and has 11 points (five goals, six assists) in a five-game point streak.

The Avalanche and Penguins didn’t skate in the morning; Pittsburgh also played Tuesday, winning 4-3 in Winnipeg. The Penguins (10-8-5) are 3-0-2 in their past five games.
