The Los Angeles Kings traded veteran forward Jeff Carter to the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2022 and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2023.

The third-round pick in 2022 will be upgraded to a second-round pick, should the Penguins get to the Stanley Cup Finals this year and Carter play in 50 per cent of their games. The fourth-round pick in 2023 could become a third-round pick if Carter plays in at least 50 games next season (according to CapFriendly).

The Kings also re-signed forward Alex Iafallo to a four-year contract extension today, which carries an AAV of $4 million. Iafallo has 11 goals and 25 points in 39 games with the Kings this year, a pace of 23 goals and 53 points per 82 games. Heโ€™s 27 years old and was set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

Iโ€™ll release articles in the coming days to give more in-depth thoughts on both the trade and the signing.
