The Los Angeles Kings placed forward Matt Luff on waivers today.

Luff has one goal in 11 games with the Kings so far this season and has 10 goals and 17 points in 62 career NHL games. The winger is 23 years old and is on a one-year deal worth $700,000, though he will still be a restricted free agent when the deal expires.

While he’s still relatively young, he has yet to break through as a full-time NHLer and given Los Angeles’ quantity of young players up front, I don’t know that he’s going to get a better chance to crack the Kings’ roster down the road. It's a bit unfortunate and I was hopeful that Luff was going to be able to earn a full-time role with the Kings this season. After seeing some of the names that have cleared waivers, I think it’s unlikely we see anyone claim Luff.
