The Los Angeles Kings played four games last week and made a trade for a defenseman. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

KINGS LOSE THREE OF FOUR GAMES

The Kings lost three of four games last week, splitting a series with the Vegas Golden Knights, before losing both of their games against the San Jose Sharks.

AMADIO TRADED TO SENATORS FOR WOLANIN

The Kings made a somewhat notable trade last Monday, sending forward Mike Amadio to the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for defenseman Christian Wolanin. Amadio played 168 games with the Kings over four seasons, while Wolanin has played 58 career NHL games, all with the Senators.

LUFF PLACED ON WAIVERS, CLEARS

Los Angeles waived forward Matt Luff last week and he cleared the following day. Luff has played 11 games with the Kings this season, registering one goal, and has been assigned to the AHL’s Ontario Reign.

MAATTA PLACED ON INJURED RESERVE, ROY ON COVID PROTOCOL LIST

Defenseman Olli Maatta was placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Maatta hasn’t played since leaving a game early against the Vegas Golden Knights two weeks ago. Matt Roy also missed Saturday’s game, after being placed on the COVID Protocol list.

As for last week’s poll questions, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Do you like the Amadio for Wolanin trade for the Kings?

(Votes: 240)

Yes: 60%
Don’t feel strongly either way: 33%
No: 8%

I think it was a pretty reasonable deal for the Kings. It’s nothing major but the Kings lack depth on the left side of their defense group and Amadio wasn’t likely to be a long-term fit with the team.

QUESTION: Did you expect Matt Luff to be claimed off waivers?

(Votes: 136)

No: 74%
Yes: 26%

While Luff is still young and has shown some upside, he hasn’t managed to earn a permanent spot in the NHL. After clearing waivers, it appears he’s not going to get a shot anywhere else either in the near future.
