Not much is known about the specificities of Erik Karlsson’s offseason upper body injury. There’s been a veil of secrecy to this point. What we do know is apparently he had a good day today on the rehab front and was back on the ice, an encouraging development

Will he be ready for opening night?
When asked if Erik Karlsson could be ready for opening night, Mike Sullivan said, "yeah, I'm confident. I think today was really encouraging. That's a big step forward. The players of Erik's stature, in my experience, they don't tend to need as many reps to get up to speed."

From both an entertainment and on-ice production standpoint Erik Karlsson is one of the most important Penguins heading into this season. Even if people didn’t think Karlsson played to expectations last year he remains one of their best players and according to Dom Luszczyszyn is the second most impactful Penguin in a positive way:

Getting Karlsson for opening night will be a huge boost for the team as you can see how the depth shakes out, yikes.
Hopefully, Karlsson will have another productive session tomorrow. Since tomorrow is a practice day perhaps we see him with his other teammates for the first time this fall.
