Remember a year ago?
At that time the Penguins made a move through Vegas to get Derick Brassard...Vegas got involved for several reasons...It was a rare three way deal....
Pittsburgh got Brassard, a 2018 third-round draft pick, prospect forward Vincent Dunn and Tobias Lindberg.
The Sens got Ian Cole, Filip Gustavsson, a 2018 Penguins first-round draft pick and a 2019 third-round pick...
Vegas got Ryan Reaves and a 2018 fourth-round draft pick.
The Golden Knights retained 40% of Brassard's contract over the next two seasons. This allowed the Penguins to afford Brassard...
Vegas got Reaves...as a throw in and Reaves turned out to make a huge impact, especially in the Jets series...
But this deal was actually more about something else. McPhee made this deal, retained all that salary, just to keep Derick Brassard AWAY from the Winnipeg Jets...who had been closing in on a deal with Ottawa...
That was last year...but now Brassard is once again available and could be on the move...and two teams are leading this...once again the Jets and Knights have shown interest...For the Knights, who are already paying Brassard, they see Derick as a possible muscle addition who can score...something they lacked last year in the Finals...for the Jets...the see Brassard as a cheap addition to the depth chart and sandpaper...
stay tuned...the Penguins are VERY active right now...
