Islanders sign Aho (nhl)

The Islanders received some good and bad news with their prospects over the past couple of days. Goaltender Ilya Sorokin has signed a three-year extension to remain with CSKA Moscow in the KHL. Sorokin was already signed for the 2017-18 season.

Now the good news, the team has signed Swedish defenseman Sebastian Aho to an entry-level contract, not to be confused with Finnish forward Sebastian Aho who just completed his rookie year with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Aho was selected in the fifth round of last month's draft. The 21-year-old had a strong season in the SHL, scoring 10 goals and 20 assists in 50 games. The knock on Aho is his size, standing 5'10", 177 lbs, though he is able to move the puck and is a very good passer. Having played professionally for a few years now should help in his transition to the AHL. It's a low-risk, high reward signing.
