The Carolina Hurricanes came up short against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, losing 3-2.

The Leafs added to their lead about four minutes into the second period, as Mitch Marner took a puck on a rush and beat Andersen with a well-placed shot. The Hurricanes couldn’t respond and despite outshooting Toronto 22-12 through 40 minutes, Carolina remained down 2-0 at the intermission.
Ethan Bear cut the lead to one early in the third period, getting to the front of the net to beat Erik Kallgren with a shot from a good spot. The Leafs responded later though, as Ondrej Kase took a pass from William Nylander and one-timed it past Andersen to increase it back to a two-goal lead. While Vincent Trocheck did score for the Hurricanes in the dying seconds, Carolina still fell 3-2.
It’s the second game in a row where the Hurricanes lost despite putting together a really strong effort through much of the game. They outshot Toronto 36-21 but their inability to capitalize was the difference-maker.
They just couldn't manage to convert after a flurry of chances in the first period and their power play also went 0-for-3. Erik Kallgren played great for the Leafs, but the Hurricanes just need to find a way to bury some of their chances
Jordan Martinook also left the game after going down awkwardly in the corner, so we'll have to wait and see how severe the injury is.
Carolina will be back in action tomorrow, as they face the Washington Capitals.
