The Carolina Hurricanes hung on to beat the Seattle Kraken today, taking a 3-2 win.

It was a fairly low-event second period, where very few quality chances were generated. The Hurricanes were outshot 11-9 but it was a pretty even frame, and the game remained scoreless through 20 minutes.

Seattle struck first on a power play early in the second period, with Alex Wennberg putting a loose puck over Antti Raanta. However, the Hurricanes responded on a power play of their own a bit later, as Nino Niederreiter cashed in on a rebound to tie it. Seattle did take back their lead, with Calle Jarnkrok taking a stretch pass and going in alone, putting a nice shot over Raanta. The back and forth continued though, as the Hurricanes capitalized on another power play, as Sebastian Aho got the puck to Teuvo Teravainen, who tied the the game.

Martin Necas got the Hurricanes their first lead of the game halfway through the third period, spinning off an opponent in front of the net and slipping the puck under Philipp Grubauer. Carolina outshot Seattle 12-9 in the frame and while the Kraken did get some chances late, the Hurricanes held on for a 3-2 win.

It was a pretty good effort overall from the Hurricanes. The power play was key in the win as well though, scoring on two of their three opportunities.

It was great to see Martin Necas get a goal today, let alone the game winner. He was slumping more than maybe any player on the team, with no goals and just six assists over his last 17 games coming into tonight’s matchup.

The win also marked Teuvo Teravainen’s 500th NHL game, so it was nice to see him get one as well.

Antti Raanta continues to be good for the Hurricanes, stopping 28 of 30 shots. He’s proven to be a very strong backup for Carolina and it helps that he’s someone who’s capable of a larger workload when called upon.

Carolina’s next game comes on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche.
