Pyotr Kochetkov was back in net yet again, stopping 31 of 34 shots. While it looks like the Hurricanes could potentially have both halves of their goaltending tandem back for the playoffs, it’s nice to know that Kochetkov can step in when needed.
With clinching the Metropolitan Division, it marks the second season in a row in which the Hurricanes have won their division. While the matchups aren’t set quite yet, it seems relatively likely that the Hurricanes will end up facing the Boston Bruins, with the Tampa Bay Lightning as the other, less likely option. It seems like the Bruins would certainly be the better option and would also make for a bit of a fun matchup, given the earlier season drama between Brad Marchand, Vincent Trocheck and the two teams.
Regardless, it’s impressive to see the Hurricanes manage their second division title in a row. Once again, they look to be legitimate contenders and even in a very competitive Eastern Conference playoff picture, the Hurricanes look good heading into the playoffs, now on a five-game winning streak.
