The Carolina Hurricanes made two major moves today, re-signing Jesperi Kotkaniemi to an eight-year contract and then acquiring forward Max Domi from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-team trade.

In the Domi trade, the Hurricanes gave up defenseman Aidan Hreschuk, who the team had selected in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Domi is 27 years old and has scored nine goals and 32 points in 53 games, a pace of 14 goals and 50 points per 82 games.

The Hurricanes also acquired defenseman Tyler Inamoto from the Florida Panthers as part of the trade, sending forward Egor Korshkov back the other way. Between the Blue Jackets and Panthers, 75 per cent of Domi’s salary will be retained.
