Goaltending continues to be a strength for the Islanders (Islanders)

Last season, goaltending was a highlight for the New York Islanders. Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss were a consistent duo, becoming a major factor in New York’s success.

While Lehner moved on to Chicago and Semyon Varlamov came to New York with some question marks, the Islanders are once again getting top-tier goaltending. So far, Semyon Varlamov holds a 2.55 goals against average and a .923 save percentage with New York. Despite being pulled during a poor game against Edmonton, he stopped 93 of 98 shots in his three others starts, totaling a .949 save percentage in those games.

So essentially, of New York’s eight games, they’ve gotten six quality starts out of their goalies, which you really can’t complain about. The Islanders hold the eight-lowest goals against average in the league, despite also being 12th in shots allowed per game.

Regardless, though the Islanders may have some holes up front, getting sturdy goaltending doesn’t look like it’ll be an issue for the Islanders. So long as New York keeps getting quality starts in net, they’ll continue to be a very competitive team.
