Only 5 games on Friday night with Ottawa playing their 3rd straight game in Edmonton. You would expect some major push back from the Sens after the thrashing they took on Wednesday night. They have yet to defeat the Oilers this season. I am not playing them in any system due to how bad they are on the road, it’s not worth the risk even at +210.
Vegas and St. Louis square off for only the second time this season. These two teams are separated by only one point for top spot in the West Division.
**I have started to research teams that come off at least a 5 game road trip and how they fare in their first game back home.** St. Louis is off a 6 game road trip tonight!! Buffalo lost last night off their 5 game roadie lost on homeice.
I am starting a new angle that you will see in Scenario #1. It’s a very small size, but it’s 5-0 this week and there are 3 more spots like this between now and March 18th. I will track it and see how its plays out here for all those that read the column.
Scenario #1 – Teams that are rested, either sitting at home or on the road while their opponent plays the night before. 5-0 in the first week of tracking it!
Scenario #2 – Teams that are playing each other in back to back games, in which the home team loses the first game, the record of the home team in the second game is 49-29!
Scenario #3 – Teams playing back to back road games on consecutive nights tend to go under the total in the 2nd game. So far that trend is 16-19 when teams play on the road back to back nights.
Scenario #4 - One last angle I am tracking that is slightly profitable and similar to Scenario #1, is when any team loses the first game of a back to back against the same team, regardless if it’s on the road or at home, those teams are 70-55 in that situation.
Quick stat updates - First period totals going over were 6-4 last night and are 186-214 on the season. Road teams were 4-6 last night and are 189-204 on the season. Game totals going over the total were 7-2-1 last night and are 201-185-6 on the season.
Gamenotes for tonight –
Vegas/St. Louis – Blues off a tough 6 game road trip in which they won the first 4 game then lost the last 2 games. Vegas off two straight losses in Minny.
Arizona/Minnesota – Wild off two huge emotional wins over Vegas. They split the first two meetings of the season with both games going over the total.
Sens/Oilers – Sens have lost all 6 games to the Oilers this year. First game that went over the total in this series happened on Wednesday night.
Kings/Avs – Teams split the first two meetings head to head this season. Kings are only two points back of the Avs for the final playoff spot in the West Division.
Sharks/Ducks – The two worst teams in the West Division square off for the 4th time this season, with SJ winning 2 of the first 3 meetings this season.
