Flyers World Championship Roundup: 3-Point Games for Voracek & Konecny (Flyers)

Czech Republic 6 - Belarus 1 (Saturday)

Flyers right winger and Czech team captain Jakub Voracek racked up three points (one goal, two assists) as the Czech Republic brutalized Belarus, 6-1, in a game that saw a 45-7 shot disparity. Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas scored a goal and logged 20:13 of ice time. Voracek, who had the puck knocked away from him by a defender, earned the assist as the puck went directly to Gudas for a slap shot goal into traffic that deflected into the net off a Belarusian defender. Voracek's goal came immediately off a rebound followup of an initial David Pastrnak breakaway. The Czechs are off on Sunday before playing Finland (featuring Valtteri Filppula) on Monday. Belaus gave the Finns a much tougher time on Friday -- 24-24 in shots, 3-2 in favor of Finland on the scoreboard -- than they gave the Czechs, especially in the third period.

Norway 3 - France 2 (Saturday)

In international play for Team France, Flyers defensive center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare plays a much more all-purpose role than he performs in the National Hockey. On Saturday, Bellemare centered France's top line as the tournament co-host played Norway in the preliminary round opener for both teams. Bellemare, an alternate captain both for the Flyers and Team France, centered Dallas Stars agitator Antoine Roussel and longtime Finnish leaguer Teddy da Costa. Bellemare logged 21:11 of ice time, finishing with one shot on goal and minus-one. The games was scoreless for the first 25 minutes before the Norwegians built leads of 2-0 and 3-1. The French made a late push but were unable to find an equalizer.

Russia 10 - Italy 1 (Sunday)

Team Russia scored twice in the first period, three times in the middle stanza and five more times in the final frame to destroy Team Italy on Sunday. Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov chipped in an assist and two shots on goal in 17:18 of ice time over 26 shifts.

Canada 7 - Slovenia 2 (Sunday)

Team Canada enjoyed a 51-14 shot disparity as they steamrolled overmatched Slovenia. Flyers center Sean Couturier, who reportedly practiced on Saturday, remains day-to-day with an undisclosed ailment and did not dress for Sunday's game. Without Couturier, that left four Flyers in the Canadian lineup. Three of the four got on the scoresheet in Sunday's blowout win. Travis Konecny (12:16 TOI over 16 shifts) led the way with three assists, while Team Canada captain Claude Giroux (15:20 TOI over 19 shifts) and Wayne Simmonds (seven shots on goal, 14:42 TOI over 17 shifts) chipped in an assist apiece. Brayden Schenn (one shot on goal, 14:55 TOI over 17 shifts) played on Simmonds' line along with Alex Killorn.

Finland vs. France (Sunday)

In later Sunday action, Valtteri Filppula and Team Finland take on Bellemare and Team France. Former Flyers defenseman Lasse Kukkonen serves as the Finns' captain.
