The Anaheim Ducks dropped the second matchup of their two-game set against the St. Louis Blues yesterday, falling 3-1.
The Ducks went with 11 forwards and seven defensemen, with Pavol Regenda being scratched as Kevin Shattenkirk re-entered the lineup.

The Ducks weren’t quite as strong in the second frame, being outshot 11-7 and taking a couple penalties. While we did see some pretty great saves from both Gibson and Binnington though, neither team could take the lead and the game remained even through 40 minutes.
We saw a pretty slow third period after that, where neither team was generating a ton of high-danger opportunities. The Ducks did have a couple power play chances but after they couldn’t capitalize, Justin Faulk scored for St. Louis on a power play of their own, putting the Blues ahead with only about four minutes to go. Anaheim pressed after that but Acciari ended up sealing the deal with an empty net goal in the last 20 seconds, as St. Louis took a 3-1 win.
All-in-all, this wasn’t a poor effort from Anaheim. They were giving up chances early but did settle down throughout the game and ended up putting together a relatively competitive outing.
Regardless, it does still mark the third straight loss for the Ducks, as they come away from their three-game road trip without a point.
The Ducks also went back to 11 forwards and seven defensemen with Shattenkirk’s return, which still doesn’t make a ton of sense at all. It meant sitting both Max Comtois and Pavol Regenda in favour of AHL defensemen in a limited role.
Anaheim will be back in action tomorrow, when they face the New York Rangers.
