Crowdsourcing: Sens Clinch Last Place. Was Drafting Tkachuk the Right Move? (NHL)

The Ottawa Senators clinched last overall last night, and usually, that would mean some reason for optimism among the fanbase, but of course the Sens traded away next year's first-round pick to Colorado in the Matt Duchene deal. A deal that really didn't work out at all. A deal where the Sens included a first round pick in either 2018 or 2019, their choice, but not lottery protected.

Last year, heading into the Draft the Senators made the decision to take the pick and drafted Brady Tkachuk... Tkachuk, as a first-year rookie has been all that was advertised and more... in 69 games he has 22 goals and 23 assists for 45 points and 75 PIM. Beyond the points Tkachuk has shown absolutely remarkable leadership abilities for a kid basically the same age as a kid who just finished high school...

Due to the NHL draft lottery percentages there is no saying the Sens pick will turn into Jack Hughes.. chances are it will not. But it could.

The question I have for you...Did the Senators make the right move drafting Tkachuk and risking the loss of Jack Hughes...

I say they did...I am never in favor of teams betting against itself and Tkachuk could turn out to be very close to Hughes...

The Sens rookies actually had an amazing year...

Per the NHL Media PR> Last night Sens rookies boosted their combined totals to 90-60—150 in 2018-19, 70 more than the next closest clubs (Vancouver: 32-48—80 and Buffalo: 26-54—80). Their 150 points this season match the highest combined total among rookie skaters in franchise history

Did the Sens do the right thing taking Brady Tkachuk?
