Coyotes Lose Panik, Not Much Else Going on (Coyotes)

With my Phil Kessel hangover behind me (and I love the trade, but a part of me wonders if Galchenyuk at 25-28 is really that much worse than Kessel 31-34) we now move on to Free Agent Day.

This of course is also Canada Day, which as you know means that Keefer Sutherland does his traditional moose ride through the streets of Toronto throwing snowballs and timbits at everyone.

It's a great time, but is often overshadowed by the NHL's free-agency period.

So far today we've seen great moves from the Leafs, Rangers and Sharks........and we are perpetually confused by whatever the ___ Vancouver, Minnesota, Ottawa and Pittsburgh are thinking.

As for the Coyotes - they lost Richard Panik to the Capitals who bizarrely gave the depth player a four year commitment. Good for him, but that's insane.

Overall, the Coyotes are not expected to be very active, but I will update it if they are. I expect that more trades are coming, because they can't just go 3/4 in, you have to go all in , and the only way the Kessel trade makes sense if there is a second elite player to add to the team.

It will be a lot easier to see who might be available in a day or two, but I'd be shocked if the Coyotes didn't want to pair Kessel with someone better than Stepan and more of a sure thing than Schmaltz.
