Coyotes Have Interesting Prospects from 2017 Draft (Coyotes)

Nate Schnarr is a right-shooting 6'3 centre who just finished sixth overall in the OHL scoring race (the Ontario Hockey League).

Playing for the Guelph Storm, Schnarr put up 34 goals and 102 points in just 65 games.

Incidentally, Guelph is a very nice, very artistic town west of Toronto. It's one of the nicer places I've ever been, and has more hippies per capita that possibly anywhere else in the world.

In an article on the Athletic, by Craig Morgan, John Chayka was very complimentary in his assessment of Schnarr, but questioned if his skating would hold him back.

Still, any time a player from the third round comes close to a scoring title, it's intriguing.

Arizona also picked Pierre-Joseph Oliver in the first round that year, but he had less points in more games this year than he did last year. He is 6'3 but under 170 lbs, so he has to get bigger before he has a chance to make the NHL.

In the same Craig Morgan article, Chayka mentioned that Oliver has an extremely high ceiling, but is more of a project than most high picks, and that they will be patient with him.

Both Schnarr and Joseph are interesting prospects. Chayka has been the GM for a few years now, and we should start to see how some of his guys pan out.

For now, the most likely prospects the Coyotes have to make the team next year are Barrett Hayton and Nick Merkley. And possibly Kyle Capobianco, who, like Merkley, looks poised to be a solid NHLer if he can stay healthy.
